Skyrim East Empire Trading Company Guide: History, Facts and Quests
81Skyrim’s East Empire Trading Company (EETC) is so mysterious, even die-hard Elder Scrolls fans barely know about its background and history. In the list of Skyrim Easter eggs, the faction is often referred to as a video game counterpart of the East India Company.
Like the real-life trading company, this faction trades in various goods and has a strong business hold in eastern territories. If I am not wrong, then the name first surfaced during the events of Morrowind. Many gamers have the slightest knowledge about this enigmatic faction’s history and whereabouts. This guide tries to unravel the mystery and sheds some light into its history.
Background
The Company deals in spices, herbs, magic potions and rare items. It owns most businesses in the Morrowind province. A chartered company, the EETC is favored by emperor Tamriel to conduct business in the eastern provinces. Due to the direct funding by the emperor, the chartered company dominates trade in these territories.
The mercantile enterprise has a monopoly over select goods, such as raw ebony, glass (raw), Stalhrim, a rare item used in burial rituals by the ancient nords and priceless artifacts belonging to the extinct Dwemer race. Because it gets undue favor from the emperor, the regulations aren’t strict when it comes to importing and exporting exotic items.
Locals of the eastern provinces are not in good terms with the Company’s senior officials, who are perceived as shady, lazy and snobs. They are resented because they exploit the rare natural resources of the eastern territories. However, the Company is the only source of employment and it brings economic stability in these regions.
The EETC hires mercenaries. They wear imperial costumes and wield weapons provided by the EETC.

History
Nobody knows the accurate history behind the origins of the Skyrim East Empire Trading Company faction. According to Elder Scrolls lore, the EETC has some connection with Vvardenfell, an island and one the key imperial districts of the eastern territory.
After the ban on trade was repealed by the temple authorities, the island prospered and trade flourished. Soon it became one of the key imperial districts. Gamers believe that the trading company, under the orders of the imperial began trade in this region and later expanded its business to other districts of Morrowind.
